Title:  Stealthy False Data Injection Attacks in Feedback Systems Revisited

Abstract:
This presentation explores the impact of false data injection attacks on actuators or sensors in feedback control systems. These attacks are notorious for potentially causing substantial physical harm. We use fundamental concepts of linear feedback systems to determine the circumstances under which these attacks can be both physically impactful and stealthy. We see that unstable systems are particularly prone to sensor attacks, while non-minimum phase systems are highly susceptible to actuator attacks. Additionally, even stable and minimum-phase systems could be at risk if the control system has a high bandwidth. We propose general guidelines to assess system vulnerability and demonstrate their application through a case study.
