Drawing from interdisciplinary studies in the research group on AI and Society at Lund University, Stefan Larsson presents challenges found in the intersection of generative AI and societal concerns and their corresponding attempts of governance and regulation to mitigate these concerns.
This includes i) "traditional" AI concerns of lack of transparency, where he advocates for a meaningful and user-oriented transparency. It also includes ii) a set of issues relating to lack of control, risks of reproduction of social bias and harmful content as well as iii) the challenges of regulating a moving target as such, witnessed by the EU AI Act.
Stefan Larsson is an Associate Professor in Technology and Social Change at Lund University. He is a lawyer and socio-legal researcher that holds dual PhDs, one in social science (Sociology of Law) and one in technical science (Spatial Planning). He is PI for an international project on governance of AI and ADM in the public sector as well as a WASP-HS research cluster on how the welfare state transitions through technology, and (DDLS/WASP-HS) project on ethical questions in precision medicine. The multidisciplinary research group on AI and Society is located at the Department of Engineering, LTH.
