 n battery technology matures\, there has&nbsp\;been an accelerating push t
 o improve battery performance and safety by understanding their dynamics a
 nd using algorithms to manage them more effectively. In this talk\, I will
  discuss&nbsp\;three problems that apply ideas from control theory to batt
 eries\, by computing: i)&nbsp\; scalable bounds for thermal hotspots using
  relaxation systems theory\,&nbsp\; ii) fast charging protocols as optimal
  control problems that exploit positivity\, and iii) battery pack models t
 hat are contracting differential algebraic systems. The goal of the talk i
 s not only to demonstrate how control theory can lead to better batteries\
 , but also how battery applications can also motivate new control theory p
