 enefitted from a wealth of natural resources and strong infrastructure\, l
 eading to the highest gross domestic product on the continent. At the same
  time\, the country has some of the highest levels of inequality globally.
  These challenges\, along with long term sustainability goals\, places sig
 nificant constraints on the processing industry. This presentation will in
 vestigate applications of modelling and machine learning to support South 
 African industry as well as society.Bio:Tobi completed his undergraduate s
 tudies at the University of Pretoria and obtained his PhD from the Univers
 ity of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2013. He currently leads the Mathematical Mod
 elling and Machine Learning research group at the Department of Chemical E
 ngineering\, Stellenbosch University. He is actively involved in IFAC and 
 the current president of the South African Council for Automation and Cont
